Become an Architect

Examination

The final step on the path to licensure is examination. Passing this requirement allows you to prove your competence and readiness to practice architecture.

There is both a national exam, the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), and a state exam, the California Supplemental Examination (CSE), which is administered by the Board. Both the ARE and CSE are standardized, computerized examinations.
